Liverpool secured their first home Premier League victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Brighton, scoring twice in a five-minute first-half spell.
An own goal by Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross and Alexander Isak’s sixth goal of the season gave Liverpool control of the match.
Brighton had an early opportunity to take the lead, but Yasin Ayari fired over the crossbar after a well-worked attacking move.
The visitors were punished in the 17th minute when Florian Wirtz’s effort, which appeared to be heading wide, was deflected into the net by Gross.
The goal ended Brighton’s run of league matches without conceding, having last let in a goal during their 1-1 draw against Leeds on September 5.

Brighton nearly reduced the deficit after Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson lost possession while attempting to play out from the back. However, Ayari failed to capitalise, with his effort striking the foot of the right-hand post.
Liverpool managed the remainder of the game to secure the three points under manager Andoni Iraola, who recorded his first Premier League victory at Anfield since replacing Arne Slot in the summer.
The win followed two home victories in the UEFA Champions League and another in the Carabao Cup.
Brighton’s defeat was only their second in 13 matches across all competitions in the 2026-27 season.
Despite the loss, Brighton remained third in the Premier League standings, while Liverpool climbed from fifth to fourth, one point behind the Seagulls.
