Manchester United suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, increasing the pressure on manager Michael Carrick after another disappointing performance.
Bournemouth dominated much of the encounter to secure a deserved victory and extend United’s winless run to eight matches.
The match was overshadowed by the decision to leave United captain Bruno Fernandes on the bench after he criticised Carrick’s tactics following Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat to Como. Carrick described the decision as a “football decision”.
Despite United trailing 2-0 at half-time, Fernandes was not introduced, as the hosts struggled to create clear-cut chances.
Bournemouth threatened early through Evanilson and Rayan before taking the lead when Justin Kluivert delivered a free-kick that found Rayan unmarked at the back post. The forward beat goalkeeper Senne Lammens with a volley to put the visitors ahead.
The visitors doubled their lead two minutes before half-time after Leny Yoro slipped, allowing Adrien Truffert to square the ball for Marcus Tavernier to score into an empty net.

United were booed by sections of the home crowd at half-time as the players headed towards the dressing room.
Bournemouth continued to create chances after the break, with an offside flag ruling out a potential third goal for Evanilson. Rayan also failed to convert opportunities following defensive errors by Ayden Heaven.
Another mistake, this time involving Lisandro Martinez, gave Rayan a further opportunity, but he was unable to finish.
Evanilson eventually sealed the victory after capitalising on another defensive lapse. He raced onto a long clearance, took the ball past the advancing Lammens and curled it into the unguarded net.
The result extended Bournemouth’s winning run in all competitions to four matches, following their first Premier League victory of the season the previous weekend.
The defeat left Manchester United 16th in the Premier League table with seven points from eight matches, while Bournemouth moved up to 13th.
