Lanet Regional Hospital (LRH) in Kenya has held a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session for healthcare professionals as part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The session focused on breast cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and patient support, with medical personnel exchanging information on clinical practices and approaches to cancer management.
Hospital officials said the programme was aimed at strengthening healthcare workers’ knowledge and clinical capacity in managing breast cancer.
Addressing participants, the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, Colonel (Dr) Muithya, stressed the importance of early detection and timely medical intervention in improving outcomes for people affected by breast cancer.

He urged healthcare professionals to strengthen public awareness of breast cancer risk factors, warning signs and recommended screening practices, while encouraging people with unusual breast changes to seek medical attention promptly.
The session also addressed the importance of patient-centred care and psychosocial support for people undergoing cancer treatment, as well as the role of families in supporting patients throughout the treatment process.
Participants were encouraged to apply the knowledge gained from the session to their clinical practice and preventive healthcare activities.
The initiative formed part of the Kenya Defence Forces’ efforts to promote cancer awareness and strengthen healthcare professionals’ capacity to provide appropriate medical care.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed annually to raise awareness about the disease, encourage early detection and promote access to appropriate treatment and support.
