More than 260 military personnel and civilian golfers participated in the 2026 Commander Kenya Army Trophy Golf Tournament at Thika Greens Golf Resort in Kenya.
The tournament, organised by the Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association (KDFGA) under the military’s wellness programme, focused on promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and camaraderie among military personnel, veterans and civilians.
Deputy Army Commander Major General John Nkoimo, who represented the Commander Kenya Army, said sporting activities, including golf, help promote discipline, teamwork and social interaction while supporting military effectiveness.
He noted that golf encourages patience, concentration, discipline and integrity, qualities he described as important to military professionalism and leadership.
Nkoimo also commended participants for their sportsmanship and thanked sponsors for supporting initiatives aimed at improving personnel welfare and strengthening institutional cohesion.
The KDFGA chairperson, Major General Eric Kinuthia, said sporting events provide opportunities to build relationships among serving personnel, veterans and members of the civilian golfing community.
