President Bola Tinubu’s administration has approved a N70,000 monthly transport allowance for workers for six months, beginning in November 2026.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) announced the approval in a statement on Tuesday after conciliation talks with the Federal Government at the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

“The federal government will commence payment of the allowance in November 2026 and will be paid for a period of six months to cushion the effect of the economic challenges faced by the workforce,” the NLC said.
The labour centre said the agreement also provides for the payment of 19 months of arrears owed health workers, as well as arrears for a peculiar allowance effective from May 2026.
The NLC urged state and local governments to consider introducing similar transport allowances for their workers to cushion the impact of economic hardship.
