President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ms. Derinsola “Rinsola” Abiola, daughter of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, as the new Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC).

The appointment has drawn commendation from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), which described the choice as “a round peg in a round hole.”

In a statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Adeyemi Samson Ajasa, NANS praised President Tinubu for what it called a “thoughtful and well-deserved” decision.

Before her elevation, Ms. Abiola served as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Citizenship and Leadership, where she was credited with advancing initiatives in national development, civic responsibility, and youth empowerment. NANS said her performance in that role demonstrated “unwavering focus, competence, and dedication.”

“This new appointment is a testament to her track record and the confidence reposed in her by the President,” the association said, expressing optimism that her tenure as DG would further strengthen youth leadership, national unity, and civic responsibility in Nigeria.

NANS pledged its full support for Ms. Abiola in her new role, urging her to remain steadfast and committed to delivering impactful results for the nation.

Chief MKO Abiola, Ms. Abiola’s late father, was the presumed winner of the annulled 1993 presidential election and is widely remembered as a symbol of democracy in Nigeria.

He added that the additional time will also enable the Police to fine-tune both digital and physical verification processes, ensuring the integrity of the system and preventing abuse.

The Force emphasized that the only authorized application channel for the permit is https://possap.gov.ng, urging the public to ignore any unofficial sources.

Citizens have been advised to report cases of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorized processing through official channels, including the dedicated hotline 09169967000.

The statement concluded with an appeal for public cooperation as the Police aim to balance convenience with strong national security measures.

Obi condemns arraignment of Ibom Air passenger

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has condemned the handling of the recent Ibom Air incident, describing it as a display of “double standards” and “inadequacies” in Nigeria’s justice system.

In a statement on Monday, Obi apologised to the Ibom Air crew assaulted by Miss Comfort Emmanson, stressing the need for Nigerians to uphold good conduct as “a true measure of success and decent living.”

However, he strongly criticised the treatment of Emmanson, who was publicly stripped, arraigned in court, and remanded in custody, while another individual who allegedly delayed a flight and endangered hundreds of lives remains free.

“Stripping her publicly was not only unnecessary but also represents the height of rascality and abuse by our agencies,” Obi said, adding that it was “unacceptable” for such actions to be meted out selectively.

He argued that Emmanson’s offence does not compare to crimes committed by “those parading themselves as excellencies” who loot public funds without consequence.

Obi also questioned why the other offender in the Ibom Air saga had neither been arrested nor arraigned, accusing authorities of favouring the influential over the powerless.

“We must end this selective treatment of the poor or less privileged. If justice must be served, it should be served to all, and it must be served fairly,” he said.

Calling on the Minister of Aviation and other relevant authorities to explain the apparent bias, Obi insisted that the rule of law must be upheld as the foundation of Nigeria’s democracy.

“A new Nigeria is possible,” he concluded.

Again, Kwankwaso’s ally, Abdulmumin Jibrin, meets Tinubu at Aso Villa

Abdulmumin Jibrin, a key political associate of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general election, has met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja — marking their second meeting in just two weeks.

According to sources, Sunday’s meeting, which held from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., may have centered on the political relationship between Tinubu and Kwankwaso, as well as the rising anti-All Progressives Congress (APC) sentiment in parts of northern Nigeria.

Jibrin, however, declined to disclose the details of their discussions when approached by State House correspondents.

The latest visit comes less than two weeks after Jibrin’s July 30 meeting with the president, during which he spoke about national unity and development. When asked then about the possibility of defecting to the APC, Jibrin said, “Everything is open and everything is a possibility. The most important thing is the stability of the country and its unity.”

The renewed engagements between Jibrin and Tinubu follow recent comments by Kwankwaso alleging that the southern region is receiving preferential treatment in terms of infrastructure and development under the current administration.

Jibrin is known to maintain strong political connections with both President Tinubu and former Kano governor Kwankwaso.

Obi won 2023 election, Tinubu is ‘full of himself’ — Babachir Lawal

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has insisted that Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi won the 2023 general election.

Speaking on Politics Tonight on Channels Television on Monday, Lawal said that based on data and facts available to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not emerge as the rightful winner.

“The problem with Bola Tinubu is that he thinks I’m the one that offended him. I didn’t offend him; he offended me, and he is full of himself. He thinks that now, as so-called president… I believe he didn’t win the election,” Lawal stated.

He explained that his team closely monitored the polls, gathered results directly from the field, and discovered that some of the official results were allegedly altered.

Lawal, a consistent critic of the current administration, maintained that the outcome declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not reflect the true will of Nigerians.

Ogun seals Gbenga Daniel’s house, hotels over alleged planning violations

The Ogun State Government has sealed off properties belonging to former governor and current senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, over alleged contravention of state planning laws.

On Monday, officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, Sagamu Zonal Office, stormed Asoludero Court, Conference Hotels, and its annex in the Sagamu Government Reserved Area, pasting fresh “Sealing” and “Demolition” notices on the gates and walls of the multi-billion-naira facilities.

The action comes just three days after a “Notice to Quit” was served on the management of the properties, citing breaches of the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022.

According to the sealing notice dated August 11, 2025, the properties were shut down due to non-compliance with earlier notices, including orders to produce relevant planning permits within 24 hours. The notice warned that the premises had been “sealed off forthwith preparatory for demolition” and cautioned against breaking or tampering with the seals.

A corresponding demolition notice, also dated August 11, ordered the removal of the alleged contravention within three days or face demolition, with the cost of the exercise to be recovered from the owners.

Reacting to the development, Senator Daniel accused the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun of political persecution, alleging that the targeted buildings were legally constructed long before the enactment of the 2022 planning law.

He described the government’s move as “politically motivated” and a “blatant disregard for due process and the rule of law.”
