Aston Villa secured an impressive 2-1 comeback win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, thanks to stunning strikes from Morgan Rogers and Emiliano Buendia at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Unai Emery’s men fell behind early when Rodrigo Bentancur opened the scoring in the fifth minute, netting his first Premier League goal of 2025. Spurs looked poised to extend their dominance, but Villa gradually grew into the contest.

Rogers levelled matters before the break with a spectacular long-range effort — his first goal of the season — as Villa regained confidence and control in midfield.

The game seemed destined to end in a stalemate until the 77th minute, when substitute Buendia produced a moment of magic, curling home a brilliant finish from the edge of the box to seal all three points for the visitors.

Leandro Trossard’s second-half strike proved decisive as Arsenal edged past a resilient Fulham side to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Jean-Philippe Mateta delivered a stunning performance at Selhurst Park, scoring a hat-trick — including a dramatic 97th-minute penalty — as Crystal Palace battled back from two goals down to earn a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth in a Premier League classic.

In a chaotic finale, Mateta completed his treble from the penalty spot after Marc Guehi was brought down in the box by Bafode Diakite during a corner kick. The French striker had the chance to win it moments later but fired over the bar in the 99th minute, leaving both sides to settle for a point.

Sunderland extended their impressive start to the Premier League season with a solid 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, handing the visitors their sixth defeat in eight matches.

Nordi Mukiele opened the scoring in the first half after a clever one-two exchange with Trai Hume, calmly slotting the ball through goalkeeper Sam Johnstone’s legs to give Regis Le Bris’ side a deserved lead.

The Black Cats remained in control throughout the game and sealed all three points late on when Ladislav Krejci turned the ball into his own net under pressure, capping another strong home performance at the Stadium of Light.

Danny Welbeck was the hero as Brighton & Hove Albion snatched a dramatic late 2-1 victory over Newcastle United, extending the Magpies’ miserable run at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls looked set to share the spoils after Nick Woltemade’s brilliant back-heel finish brought Newcastle level, cancelling out Welbeck’s first-half opener. But the veteran striker had other ideas, curling home a fine effort from the edge of the box in the closing moments to secure all three points for Brighton.

Earlier, Newcastle had shown little threat in attack, failing to register a shot on target in the opening 70 minutes. Bruno Guimaraes fired wide from inside the area, while Sven Botman missed a headed chance at the back post before Welbeck broke the deadlock just before half-time — lifting the ball over goalkeeper Nick Pope to put Brighton ahead.

Erling Haaland continued his blistering goalscoring form as Manchester City defeated Everton 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium to move top of the Premier League.

The Norwegian striker, fresh off a hat-trick for his national team during the international break, struck twice in quick succession in the second half to take his tally to an astonishing 23 goals in just 13 matches for club and country this season.

After a quiet first half, Haaland came alive with his first real chance of the game, rising high to head home Nico O’Reilly’s cross with trademark power. Just five minutes later, he doubled City’s advantage, calmly slotting in from Savinho’s cutback — a shot that took a slight deflection off Everton defender James Tarkowski.

Before Haaland’s heroics, Everton had looked the more threatening side, creating several dangerous chances.
