Police fired teargas in Abuja on Monday to disperse protesters led by activist Omoyele Sowore, who gathered to demand the release of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
The demonstrators, chanting “Free Kanu now,” marched peacefully near the Federal High Court before security operatives moved in, firing canisters to break up the crowd.

Sowore and several others were seen scampering for safety as the area was engulfed in smoke, while eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic.
Despite the disruption, the protesters vowed to continue their agitation until Kanu regains his freedom.
