Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially announced his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Omo-Agege made the declaration in a statement issued on Wednesday in Asaba, stating that his decision followed extensive consultations and careful reflection.
“Driven by patriotic duty, resourceful service, and a hopeful vision for our future, I hereby declare my intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial District seat in 2027 on the platform of the APC,” he said.
He described the move as a significant decision taken after wide consultations with family members, political associates, and stakeholders across the eight local government areas of Delta Central.
According to him, the decision was also in response to appeals from constituents, professionals, and supporters urging him to return to the Senate and contribute to national development, while supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Omo-Agege said there was broad consensus across Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Udu, Okpe, Sapele, Uvwie, Ethiope East, and Ethiope West that the Urhobo nation requires experienced and purposeful representation in the Senate.
He added that after prayers and personal reflection, he was convinced that public service remains a divine responsibility.
Describing the ambition as a collective one, he said it is aimed at strengthening Delta Central’s voice at the national level, stressing that representation must be impactful and not merely symbolic.
Reflecting on his tenure between 2015 and 2023, during which he served as Deputy Senate President, Omo-Agege highlighted several achievements, including the establishment of a federal polytechnic, a National Defence Space School, and an oil and gas industrial park in the region, with the support of the National Assembly and former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also cited the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale, alongside various community-based projects such as healthcare upgrades, ICT centres, school rehabilitation, electrification, and empowerment initiatives.
Omo-Agege stressed that Delta Central must maintain a strong and influential presence in the Senate, pledging to provide effective legislative leadership if elected.
“I will ensure bills move from sponsorship to assent, while defending our economic interests, expanding education and healthcare, and strengthening security,” he said.
On infrastructure, he promised to collaborate with the Presidency, National Assembly, and relevant ministries to deliver key projects, including roads, power supply, schools, and healthcare facilities.
He also pledged to promote job creation by supporting small businesses, artisans, and agro-processors through targeted funding initiatives.
Backing President Tinubu, Omo-Agege described ongoing economic reforms as necessary steps toward long-term national growth, citing measures such as subsidy removal, exchange rate reforms, student loan programmes, and infrastructure development.
He added that Delta Central stands to benefit from these reforms due to its strategic importance in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
“Supporting President Tinubu in 2027 is non-negotiable. Continuity will ensure the completion of ongoing projects and sustained development,” he said.
He further called for unity within the APC in Delta State, urging party members to work together ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I am committed to a united APC in Delta State. We must approach 2027 as one family,” he added.
