EPL: Maguire’s late header seals Man United’s first Anfield win in nearly a decade

Harry Maguire’s late header earned Manchester United a dramatic 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, ending the Red Devils’ nine-year wait for a win at the iconic ground and handing Liverpool their fourth straight defeat.

Cody Gakpo appeared to have rescued Liverpool from their losing streak when he struck with 12 minutes left, but Maguire rose highest six minutes from time to power a header past goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, sealing a memorable win for Ruben Amorim’s men.

United stunned the home crowd by taking the lead inside two minutes in controversial circumstances, after referee Michael Oliver allowed play to continue despite Alexis Mac Allister lying prone with a head injury from a collision with teammate Virgil van Dijk. Brentford loanee Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on the chaos, slotting past Mamardashvili, who stood in for the injured Alisson.

Liverpool pressed relentlessly, with Gakpo hitting the woodwork three times — twice before the break and once more in the second half — before finally finding the net from close range. However, his effort wasn’t enough to prevent another disappointing result for Jürgen Klopp’s side.

Bruno Fernandes had a golden opportunity to double United’s early advantage but fired wide, while new Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens impressed between the posts, producing a key save to deny Alexander Isak.

In a thrilling second half, United held firm under pressure, and Maguire’s decisive header capped a resilient display that saw them claim their first win at Anfield since January 2016.

For Liverpool, the defeat marked a worrying milestone — their fourth consecutive loss and their worst run of form since November 2014, during the Brendan Rodgers era.

Buendia, Rogers fire Aston Villa to comeback victory over Spurs

Aston Villa secured an impressive 2-1 comeback win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, thanks to stunning strikes from Morgan Rogers and Emiliano Buendia at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Unai Emery’s men fell behind early when Rodrigo Bentancur opened the scoring in the fifth minute, netting his first Premier League goal of 2025. Spurs looked poised to extend their dominance, but Villa gradually grew into the contest.

Rogers levelled matters before the break with a spectacular long-range effort — his first goal of the season — as Villa regained confidence and control in midfield.

The game seemed destined to end in a stalemate until the 77th minute, when substitute Buendia produced a moment of magic, curling home a brilliant finish from the edge of the box to seal all three points for the visitors.

Brennan Johnson missed a late chance to snatch a draw for Tottenham, blazing his effort over the bar in added time.

The victory marks Villa’s fifth consecutive win across all competitions, lifting them to 10th place on 12 points — just two behind Spurs, who missed the opportunity to climb to second in the Premier League table.

Chelsea lead race for Morgan Rogers as Real Madrid targets Guehi, Upamecano

Chelsea are reportedly leading the race to sign Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers as transfer speculations intensify ahead of the January window.

According to Caught Offside, the 23-year-old England international has attracted strong interest from several Premier League clubs, but Chelsea are currently seen as frontrunners for his signature.

Meanwhile, TalkSport reports that Real Madrid have identified three defensive targets for potential free transfers next year — Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté. The trio are all highly rated and could strengthen Madrid’s defensive line-up as the club looks to plan for the future.

In South America, several English clubs — including Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal — are monitoring 18-year-old Argentine winger Ian Subiabre from River Plate. TBR Football notes that the teenager could make a move to the Premier League in 2026.

Elsewhere, The Guardian reports that Nottingham Forest are considering Fulham manager Marco Silva as a potential replacement for the recently dismissed Ange Postecoglou. However, the club is cautious about the £8 million buyout clause attached to Silva’s contract. Sean Dyche and Roberto Mancini are also being considered for the role.

Real Madrid’s 19-year-old Brazilian forward Endrick is said to be open to a loan move to Marseille due to limited game time at the Bernabéu, according to L’Équipe via Get Football.

In another development, Football Insider reports that Tottenham Hotspur are leading Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, 25, as the Serbian forward remains a top target for Premier League clubs.

Additionally, Chelsea may activate a buyback clause to re-sign Belgian midfielder Diego Moreira, 21, from their sister club Strasbourg (TBR Football).

Finally, TalkSport adds that Real Madrid are keeping tabs on 17-year-old Mexican prodigy Gilberto Mora, who currently plays for Tijuana, as part of their long-term scouting strategy.

EPL: Arsenal top again after Trossard goal sinks Fulham

Leandro Trossard’s second-half strike proved decisive as Arsenal edged past a resilient Fulham side to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Manager Mikel Arteta was without skipper Martin Ødegaard and handed a start to Eberechi Eze, opting for a more attacking setup. But it was Fulham who looked sharper early on, with Harry Wilson and Josh King both testing David Raya — the latter forcing the Arsenal goalkeeper into a fine fingertip save.

Arsenal gradually found their rhythm and thought they had broken the deadlock when Riccardo Calafiori finished off a well-worked move, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

The Gunners came out firing after the break, dominating possession and pinning Fulham deep in their own half. Their persistence finally paid off in the 58th minute when Gabriel glanced on Bukayo Saka’s corner, allowing Trossard to slot home at the back post.

Saka later appeared to have earned a penalty, but the decision was overturned following a VAR review.

The hard-fought 1–0 victory lifts Arsenal three points clear of Manchester City, who had briefly gone top after their win over Everton earlier on Saturday. Liverpool remain four points adrift in third and will look to close the gap when they face Manchester United on Sunday.

Mateta hat-trick inspires Crystal Palace comeback in 3-3 thriller against Bournemouth

Jean-Philippe Mateta delivered a stunning performance at Selhurst Park, scoring a hat-trick — including a dramatic 97th-minute penalty — as Crystal Palace battled back from two goals down to earn a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth in a Premier League classic.

In a chaotic finale, Mateta completed his treble from the penalty spot after Marc Guehi was brought down in the box by Bafode Diakite during a corner kick. The French striker had the chance to win it moments later but fired over the bar in the 99th minute, leaving both sides to settle for a point.

The match had earlier looked set to go Bournemouth’s way after 19-year-old Eli Kroupi, making his first Premier League start, scored twice to put the visitors 2-0 ahead.

Palace hit back midway through the second half, with Mateta scoring twice in five minutes to make it 2-2 and swing the momentum in the hosts’ favour. However, Ryan Christie restored Bournemouth’s lead in the 89th minute, seemingly sealing victory — until Mateta’s late heroics saved the day.

The draw caps a remarkable spell for Mateta, who recently made his France debut on October 10 against Azerbaijan and scored his first international goal three days later in a 2-2 draw with Iceland.

The result lifts Crystal Palace to eighth in the Premier League table, while Bournemouth sit fourth. The Cherries would have briefly gone top with a win, depending on Arsenal’s result later in the day against Fulham.

Barcelona snatch late win over Girona in Catalan derby

FC Barcelona secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Girona FC in the final moments of the Catalan derby on Saturday at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium.

Ronald Araujo scored the winning goal deep into stoppage time, sparking wild celebrations among Barça fans after a tense and hard-fought match.

Barcelona took an early lead in the 13th minute through Pedri, who combined brilliantly with Lamine Yamal, returning to the starting lineup after recovering from injury. But Girona quickly responded, with Axel Witsel firing home a stunning equalizer just six minutes later.

Both sides created several chances afterward — Girona’s Portu struck the crossbar, while Barça’s Frenkie de Jong and Marcus Rashford came close to restoring the lead.

Barça thought they had gone ahead early in the second half when Pau Cubarsí found the net, but the goal was disallowed for a foul in the buildup.

In a dramatic finale, Araujo sealed the win for Barcelona with a precise finish in the last minute of added time, ensuring three crucial points for Hansi Flick’s side.

However, the victory was marred by Flick’s red card in stoppage time for dissent toward referee Gil Manzano, ruling him out of El Clásico against Real Madrid on October 26.

Before kickoff, both teams observed a moment of solidarity with residents of Catalonia’s Terres de l’Ebre, recently affected by Storm Alice.

Separately, the match also saw a 15-second symbolic protest by players following a call from Spain’s footballers’ union (AFE) over LaLiga’s controversial plan to stage a Barcelona vs Villarreal league game in Miami.

The win keeps Barcelona’s strong domestic run alive as they prepare for a busy stretch of fixtures.

Sunderland continue fantastic Premier League form with 2-0 win over Wolverhampton

Sunderland extended their impressive start to the Premier League season with a solid 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, handing the visitors their sixth defeat in eight matches.

Nordi Mukiele opened the scoring in the first half after a clever one-two exchange with Trai Hume, calmly slotting the ball through goalkeeper Sam Johnstone’s legs to give Regis Le Bris’ side a deserved lead.

The Black Cats remained in control throughout the game and sealed all three points late on when Ladislav Krejci turned the ball into his own net under pressure, capping another strong home performance at the Stadium of Light.

The win marks Sunderland’s third home victory of the season and lifts them to seventh place on the table, having collected 10 points from their first four home games — their best top-flight start at home since the 1968–69 season.

Sunderland had a bright start when Wilson Isidor thought he’d given them the lead early on with a thunderous strike into the top corner, only for it to be ruled out for offside. Moments later, Mukiele made no mistake, finishing off a slick attacking move to open the scoring.

The hosts nearly doubled their lead before the break when Hume’s header struck the post after Dan Ballard flicked on a long throw.

Wolves improved in the second half, applying sustained pressure in search of an equalizer, but their attack lacked creativity and precision. Jackson Tchatchoua wasted their best chance, poking wide from close range before Krejci’s late own goal sealed their fate.

The result leaves Wolves bottom of the Premier League, still searching for their first win of the campaign, while Sunderland continue to impress under Le Bris with confidence and momentum growing each week.

Danny Welbeck’s late strike seals dramatic win for Brighton over Newcastle

Danny Welbeck was the hero as Brighton & Hove Albion snatched a dramatic late 2-1 victory over Newcastle United, extending the Magpies’ miserable run at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls looked set to share the spoils after Nick Woltemade’s brilliant back-heel finish brought Newcastle level, cancelling out Welbeck’s first-half opener. But the veteran striker had other ideas, curling home a fine effort from the edge of the box in the closing moments to secure all three points for Brighton.

Earlier, Newcastle had shown little threat in attack, failing to register a shot on target in the opening 70 minutes. Bruno Guimaraes fired wide from inside the area, while Sven Botman missed a headed chance at the back post before Welbeck broke the deadlock just before half-time — lifting the ball over goalkeeper Nick Pope to put Brighton ahead.

Newcastle finally came alive late on when substitute Lewis Miley set up Woltemade, who showed superb awareness to flick the ball past Bart Verbruggen and make it 1-1. The goal seemed to spark the visitors into life, but despite a strong finish and a handball appeal waved away, Brighton found a late response.

Welbeck struck again with a precise low shot to seal a deserved win and continue Newcastle’s frustrating record at the Amex.

EPL: Haaland’s brace fires Man City past Everton to top table

Erling Haaland continued his blistering goalscoring form as Manchester City defeated Everton 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium to move top of the Premier League.

The Norwegian striker, fresh off a hat-trick for his national team during the international break, struck twice in quick succession in the second half to take his tally to an astonishing 23 goals in just 13 matches for club and country this season.

After a quiet first half, Haaland came alive with his first real chance of the game, rising high to head home Nico O’Reilly’s cross with trademark power. Just five minutes later, he doubled City’s advantage, calmly slotting in from Savinho’s cutback — a shot that took a slight deflection off Everton defender James Tarkowski.

Before Haaland’s heroics, Everton had looked the more threatening side, creating several dangerous chances. Iliman Ndiaye, who scored at the Etihad last season, gave the City defence trouble throughout the first half. He intercepted Nathan Ake’s misplaced pass but Beto failed to connect with his low cross, while Gianluigi Donnarumma made a stunning save to deny Ndiaye’s thunderous strike.

City also had moments of luck, as Everton’s Jake O’Brien narrowly avoided an own goal when his header struck the crossbar. Meanwhile, Savinho saw two first-half efforts saved by England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

However, once again, Haaland proved to be the difference — delivering when it mattered most to hand Pep Guardiola’s side another crucial victory in their title pursuit.

Guehi set to leave Crystal Palace next year – Glasner confirms

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi has informed the club he will not be renewing his contract and plans to leave next year, manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed.

The 25-year-old England international, whose deal expires at the end of the current season, has been offered an extension by the club but has decided to seek a new challenge.

“They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, ‘No, I want to make something different,’ and that’s normal,” Glasner told reporters.

Palace now face a crucial decision — whether to sell Guehi in the January transfer window or risk losing him for free when his contract ends next summer.

“It’s about how we can deal with this situation,” Glasner added. “What is the best way to get this next step done? And that’s all about how we are talking together.”

Guehi, who joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021, has made 167 appearances for the club. He was close to a £35 million move to Liverpool last summer after passing a medical, but the deal collapsed on transfer deadline day when Palace failed to secure a replacement, Brighton defender Igor Julio.

This season, the centre-back has featured in all 12 games across competitions, helping Palace climb to sixth in the Premier League.

Reports indicate that Palace are now open to selling Guehi in January, with Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich all monitoring his situation.

Guehi recently earned his 26th England cap in a 3–0 friendly victory over Wales, and he believes his chances of making the 2026 World Cup squad remain strong — even if he stays with Palace until the end of the season.
