Getting a Nigerian driver’s licence is now more convenient, with applicants able to complete most of the process online before visiting a Driver’s Licence Centre for biometric capture.
According to the Nigeria Driver’s Licence portal, motorists can submit their personal details, pay the required fees and book an appointment online, helping to reduce the time spent at licensing centres.
Before starting the application, prospective drivers must attend an FRSC-accredited driving school and obtain a driving school certificate. Applicants will also need a National Identification Number (NIN), a valid means of identification and a recent passport photograph.
After completing the application process, successful applicants may receive a temporary driver’s licence valid for 60 days while the permanent licence is being processed.
Here is how to apply
Step 1: Visit the official Nigeria Driver’s Licence portal at nigeriadriverslicence.org.
If you are accessing the website on a mobile phone, switch your browser to Desktop Site if the portal does not display properly.
Step 2: On the homepage, click “DL Application” and select “New Driver’s Licence.”
Step 3: Enter your driving school certificate number and complete the online application form with your personal details.

Ensure that your name and other information match the details linked to your National Identification Number (NIN).
Step 4: Select your preferred FRSC Driver’s Licence Centre for biometric capture and schedule an appointment.
Step 5: Pay the required application fee through the Remita payment gateway on the portal. Depending on the available options, payment can be made using a debit card, bank transfer or USSD.
Applicants are advised to make payments only through the official portal and avoid dealing with individuals or unauthorised agents.
After making payment, print your payment receipt and attend your biometric appointment on the scheduled date. You should also take along the original copies of your documents for verification and biometric capture.
