FULL LIST: FG lists eight accredited universities in Togo, Benin

The Federal Government has said that only eight universities have been accredited to award degrees to Nigerians in Togo and Benin Republic.

The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, made this known on Sunday night while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme.

Speaking during the programme, the minister said the federal government only recognised three institutions in Togo and five in Benin Republic while identifying others as illegal institutions.

The minister also insisted that there is no going back on the decision of the federal government to cancel about 22,700 certificates awarded to Nigerians by some “fake” universities in neighbouring Togo and Benin Republic.

Mamman maintained that the decision to invalidate the certificates was not harsh as Nigerians who obtained degree certificates from such “illegal” tertiary institutions dent the country’s image.

He said, “Most of those parading the fake certificates didn’t even leave the shores of Nigeria but got their certificates through racketeering in collaboration with government officials at home and abroad.

“The “fake universities” capitalised on the “gullibility” of Nigerians patronising such fake schools.

“The federal government, through the offices of the Head of Civil Service and the Secretary of the Federation, would fish out those in the government’s employment with such fake certificates. I also urge the private sector to follow suit.”

Here is a list of the public universities to offer degree programs in Togo for students from Nigeria.

EPL: Trossard, Partey score as Arsenal beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park

Aston Villa lost 2-0 to Arsenal at Villa Park on Saturday

Second-half goals by Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey earned Arsenal a 2-0 win as Mikel Arteta’s side continued their perfect start to the Premier League season.

The visitors who gained the lead through substitute Trossard in the 67th minute remained resolute.

However, Ghanaian’s Partey sealed the victory in the 77th minute.

While Arsenal’s traveling supporters celebrated two victories from two games to keep their team on track for another serious title campaign, Villa supporters regretted their wasted opportunities and made their way out of the stadium.

EPL: Haaland scores hat trick as Man City beat Ipswich 4-1

Manchester City on Saturday won Championship elevated team, Ipswich Town 4-1 at Etihad Stadium.

Belgium’s striker Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick as Man City proved to Ipswich how tough life in the Premier League can be.

After missing out on promotion for 22 years, the Tractor Boys are back in the top division, and they are off to a great start against the reigning champions thanks to a goal from Sammie Szmodics on his full debut, which he scored just seven minutes into the first half by putting the ball between Ederson’s legs.

However, their joy was cut short after Man City hit back with three goals within four minutes.

First Haaland equalized with a skillfully executed penalty, awarded after a review by the video assistant referee after Sam Allison had initially deemed Savinho had dived.

After that, Kevin de Bruyne took advantage of Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric’s lapse in concentration to score, and just 16 minutes later, Haaland made it 3-1 by going around Muric and finishing with a shot.

Leif Davis appeared to be hauled down by Brazil winger Savinho inside the area, and Ipswich had a strong claim for a penalty turned down, although Man City might have been much farther up after hitting the post twice.

Arguably the loudest cheer of the match occurred in the second half when Ilkay Gundogan, who completed his one-year transfer from Barcelona back to City on Friday, entered the game to celebrate his return to the team.

In the dying minutes, Haaland completed his hat-trick with a low drive from distance, just as it appeared that Ipswich had kept Man City to just three goals.

With the win, Man City has won both of its first Premier League games, whereas Ipswich, who lost to Liverpool in their first match, is still awaiting their first point following an incredibly tough start.

EPL: Alex Iwobi scores as Fulham beat Leicester 2-1

Fulham on Saturday, August 24 won their first Premier League home game of the season 2-1 against Leicester at Craven Cottage.

Nigerian winger, Alex Iwobi’s 70th-minute winner gave Fulham victory over the visitors.

Wout Faes had scored an equaliser for the Foxes before the end of the first half.

However, Iwobi fired through the legs of goalkeeper Mads Hermansen to restore Fulham’s lead.

Emile Smith Rowe, a club record signing, opened the score in the eighteenth minute of play for the dominant Cottagers.

Faes’ equalizer came in twenty minutes later, but the goal was disallowed by referee Darren Bond because he thought Jamie Vardy had interfered with Bernd Leno in an offside position.

However, Bond who was prompted by the VAR, overruled the decision after viewing footage showing the Fulham goalkeeper moving Vardy out of the way.

After Iwobi’s goal, Leicester found it difficult to maintain possession and lacked a decisive edge as they attempted to rally for a late equalizer.

However, Wilfred Ndidi almost scored in the last seconds of injury time, when he slammed his shot straight at Leno.

For Marco Silva’s team, it is their first victory of the year after they lost 1-0 to a late goal in their season opener against Manchester United.

EPL: Brighton beat Man Utd 2-1 at Amex Stadium

Brighton & Hove Albion have won Man Utd 2-1 in the Premier League opening match on Saturday, at the American Express Community Stadium.

Home side forward João Pedro nets Manchester United with a stoppage time winner.

Former Red Devils striker Danny Welbeck opened the scoring earlier at the Amex Stadium, as the Seagulls continued their early season form.

Welbeck capped a lovely move in the first half, involving Kaoru Mitoma, when he escaped Harry Maguire to poke home into the empty net from close range.

Welbeck then struck the woodwork with a header from close range, before United hit back through Diallo’s strike, which was deflected past Jason Steele.

However, Amad Diallo’s goal for Red Devils in the 70th minute, levelled the game.

Joshua Zirkzee’s goal woud have kept Manchester United ahead, but for the VAR that cancelled the goal.

The Seagulls, however, seized all three points in the 95th minute through Pedro to keep Fabian Hurzeler’s side top of the league.
