EPL: Tottenham thrash Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford

In a Premier League showdown on Sunday, September 29, Tottenham Hotspur delivered a stunning performance, beating Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford.

This result marks a significant blow for United and a big boost for Spurs as they continue to battle in the league.

With an early goal and a decisive action, the match was filled with drama and tension.

The match began with an electric atmosphere, and Tottenham wasted no time in taking control.

Brennan Johnson opened the scoring for the visitors just three minutes into the game.

A quick counterattack saw Johnson receiving the ball at the edge of the box before he drilled it past Manchester United’s goalkeeper.

The early goal set the tone for what would be a tough day for the home side, as United struggled to regain composure.

Manchester United, despite playing at home, appeared unsettled after conceding the early goal.

Their midfield was disjointed, and they struggled to break down a disciplined Tottenham defense.

Tottenham’s high press and quick transitions left United chasing shadows for much of the first half.

The game took a drastic turn when Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, was sent off for a reckless tackle on Tottenham’s playmaker, James Maddison in the 42nd minute of play.

Being down a man significantly impacted Manchester United’s approach to the game. Erik ten Hag’s side had to adopt a more defensive strategy, sitting back and trying to absorb Tottenham’s pressure.

However, Spurs took full advantage of the numerical superiority, pressing United into their own half and creating more scoring opportunities.

The second half started with Tottenham continuing their dominance. Just two minutes into the second half, in the 47th minute, Dejan Kulusevski scored a brilliant second goal for Spurs.

With a two-goal lead, Tottenham were in full control of the match. Their midfield, led by Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski controlled possession and dictated the tempo.

Manchester United, already down a man, struggled to regain any foothold in the game, and the frustration was evident on the faces of the players and fans alike.

Tottenham’s victory was sealed when Dominic Solanke netted the third goal. In the 65th minute, after a defensive error by Manchester United, Solanke pounced on the loose ball and buried it in the back of the net. The goal highlighted United’s defensive frailties, with their backline being easily exploited throughout the match.

The 3-0 victory was a testament to Tottenham’s tactical discipline and their ability to capitalize on key moments. Manager Ange Postecoglou’s strategy of pressing high and exploiting United’s weaknesses proved to be a masterclass in game management. Spurs’ clinical finishing, combined with their solid defensive structure, ensured they left Old Trafford with all three points.

This victory propelled Tottenham to 8th place in the Premier League table, with 10 points. Although still behind Newcastle United, who sit at 11 points, Spurs are steadily climbing the ranks, and this result will undoubtedly boost their confidence. The win over a traditionally strong side like Manchester United sends a clear message that Tottenham are ready to compete at a high level this season.

After a slow start to the season, Tottenham are starting to build momentum. This victory could be the catalyst for a successful campaign, as they continue to find their form under new management.

With key players like Brennan Johnson, Kulusevski, and Solanke performing well, Spurs have the potential to challenge for a top-four finish.

For Manchester United, this defeat exposed their defensive vulnerabilities. The red card for Fernandes compounded their issues, but even before that, their backline looked shaky. Erik ten Hag will need to address these problems if United are to avoid slipping further down the table.

Beyond defensive issues, United struggled to create meaningful chances in attack. Without Fernandes pulling the strings in midfield, their forwards were starved of service. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were largely isolated, and Tottenham’s defense kept them quiet throughout the game.

Tottenham’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford was a statement win for Spurs and a troubling result for United. From Johnson’s early goal to Solanke’s clinical finish, Tottenham dominated the game and fully deserved the win. With United down to 10 men after Fernandes’ red card, Spurs were able to control the game and secure an important three points. As Tottenham move up the Premier League table, Manchester United face increasing pressure to solve their defensive and attacking woes.

Gabriel Martinelli had scored the first goal in the 20th minute before Jurrien Timber’s cross, which was converted by Leandro Trossard, hit the net just before the end of the half-time.

Shakirat Ayobami refutes baseless allegations from detractors

Dr Shakirat Kareem Ayobami, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Whiterose Group, has rebuked the coordinated effort by her detractors to spread false allegations against her through the media. She emphasized that the allegations are baseless and part of a deliberate strategy by her competitors to tarnish the reputable image of the property brand she has diligently built over the years.

Addressing the recent misinformation against her, Dr Shakira stated that the allegations stem from envy, hate, and resentment from individuals threatened by her success in business. Despite facing unfair attacks in the media, she remains steadfast in her commitment to the real estate sector.

“Ordinarily, i would have ignored the attention-seeking cheap blackmailers because they could not support their baseless allegations with any shred of evidence; however, for the sake of my concerned friends, numerous clients, and benefactors, i needed to put out a rebuttal as I believe the negative press will only serve to strengthen my resolve and make me a better person.” She said.

She also emphasized that the recent media scrutiny may be a result of biased elements using the media to undermine her achievements as a successful woman in a predominantly male-driven industry in Nigeria.

The philanthropist known for her innovative design work in reshaping the Lagos skyline with luxurious condominiums and other impressive buildings dismissed the allegations made on certain sponsored blogs and social media platforms. She emphasized that the claims are unfounded and do not reflect her reputable standing as a respected businesswoman with years of experience and a track record of serving top clients with a commitment to excellence.

She also expresses her disappointment at the sponsors of the fake news, whom she believed should have made it an issues-based argument rather than resorting to name-calling and cheap blackmail. In the purported falsehood being spread around by some faceless bloggers, it was alleged that the light-skinned business coach was allegedly involved in some fraudulent dealings but contrary to the claim, she said; “since my foray into the real estate business, I has never been caught in the web of fraud or engage in fraudulent activities. I always come clean.”

She further disclosed that her company was built on key elements like; fidelity, consistency, quality, eye for detail, relationship-oriented, hard work and truthfulness.

She also said most of her clients are referral-based as she ensures customer experience and satisfaction which has kept her brand a formidable one with numerous projects to its growing portfolio. In other to prove her innocence of the said allegations, She has challenged anyone with substantial proof of defrauding to come forward and present it as she is ready to face the full wrath of the law if she is found culpable. “I vehemently disassociate myself from other allegations which include; land-grabbing, assassination attempts, blackmail and others noted in the sponsored syndicated press statement. I know nothing about them. It’s just a way to bring me down and I will not give in to that.”

She has also called on stakeholders within the pen-pushing profession on proper regulation of the media space as many who hide under the guise of ‘free speech‘ have constantly pushed hateful and disparaging statements of no fact for clickbait to malign her.  “What they are doing is against the ethics of journalism as a profession. The profession gives opportunity for fair hearing and a balanced story reportage rather than resorting to blackmails using media platforms to peddle misinformation.

“To clear my name off the series of allegations and falsehoods being peddled against me by my detractors, I have ordered my legal team to seek legal redress and do anything within the ambit of the law to hold anyone culpable of defamation and cyberbullying face the wrath of the law.” She revealed.

Dr Shakirat has reiterated that she is a law-abiding Nigerian and a practising Muslim with a business conglomerate currently employing over three thousand direct and indirect workers. She also said she will do everything to protect her brand jealously and won’t condone anyone hiding under any guise to peddle misinformation about her and her brand by sabotaging her hard work as she is ready to go head-on with anyone culpable in line with the cybercrime section of Nigerian law to further prove her innocence.

FULL LIST: FG lists eight accredited universities in Togo, Benin

The Federal Government has said that only eight universities have been accredited to award degrees to Nigerians in Togo and Benin Republic.

The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, made this known on Sunday night while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme.

Speaking during the programme, the minister said the federal government only recognised three institutions in Togo and five in Benin Republic while identifying others as illegal institutions.

The minister also insisted that there is no going back on the decision of the federal government to cancel about 22,700 certificates awarded to Nigerians by some “fake” universities in neighbouring Togo and Benin Republic.

Mamman maintained that the decision to invalidate the certificates was not harsh as Nigerians who obtained degree certificates from such “illegal” tertiary institutions dent the country’s image.

He said, “Most of those parading the fake certificates didn’t even leave the shores of Nigeria but got their certificates through racketeering in collaboration with government officials at home and abroad.

“The “fake universities” capitalised on the “gullibility” of Nigerians patronising such fake schools.

“The federal government, through the offices of the Head of Civil Service and the Secretary of the Federation, would fish out those in the government’s employment with such fake certificates. I also urge the private sector to follow suit.”
