Manchester City scored twice in the closing stages to secure a dramatic victory over Bournemouth and give Enzo Maresca a winning start to his Premier League tenure.
The result also denied Marco Rose a dream beginning as Bournemouth manager, with his side suffering their first defeat in any competition since January.
Bournemouth took the lead in the first half through Marcus Tavernier, who found himself in plenty of space before emphatically finishing Evanilson’s low cross into the box.
City struggled to find a way through for much of the match, with Erling Haaland wasting several opportunities as the visitors appeared set for a frustrating afternoon.
However, City finally found an equaliser with six minutes remaining when Marc Guehi, playing in defensive midfield for only the third time in his career, headed home from Rayan Cherki’s corner.
The champions then completed the comeback deep into stoppage time when Josko Gvardiol’s effort found the bottom corner.
The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but the decision was overturned following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.
The defeat ended Bournemouth’s club-record 18-match unbeaten run and handed Rose a disappointing start despite his side’s strong first-half showing.
