Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, on Monday appeared before the Kaduna State High Court as proceedings resumed in his ongoing trial filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai is being tried alongside Amadu Sule over allegations of abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage, among other charges.
Shortly before entering the courtroom, the former governor was heard discussing the upcoming convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with an associate. “So tomorrow is our convention, right?” he asked, with the associate replying, “God willing,” indicating his continued involvement in party activities.
In a related development, El-Rufai is also facing a separate 10-count charge before the Federal High Court in Kaduna over alleged abuse of office, money laundering, and fraud involving N579.6 million and $1.1 million.
The charges were filed by the ICPC as part of its anti-corruption efforts, with a bail hearing scheduled for April 14.
